Linking research, policy and practice

I enjoy working at the nexus of research, policy and practice and strive to link knowledge within and across these fields. I believe that all persons have knowledge and that new, innovative, ideas and solutions emerge when this knowledge is shared and documented.

Last year, I conducted a qualitative study to explore how linkages between research, policy and practice are perceived and which strategies could be employed to increase knowledge use. One of the conclusions was that knowledge platforms can play an important role in encouraging interdisciplinary dialogues, and sharing and documenting tacit knowledge, such as best practices and lessons learned.

Share-Net International: Linking research, policy and practice
Currently, Share-Net has asked me to work on three separate projects:

  • The organisation of a meeting about lessons learned in conducting Operational Research. I will write a report stating the main findings based on this meeting;
  • The organisation of a New Year's event to disseminate the findings of seventeen Small Grant projects that were conducted in 2014 & 2015. The project leaders will not only share their findings but also discuss their implications for policy, practice and follow-up research. I will write a report with the main findings and implications based on this meeting;
  • Write a 'checklist' to be used by students, NGOs and student supervisors to inform contracts/Memorandum of Understandings for student-NGO collaborations.
